Stills started out as an experiment. I was interested in how video as technology could interact or inform our (physical) doing, and what this would produce in return. I wanted to see how presence could be experienced, like a physical idea, through this media. From a technical point of view the task was simple. I used the camera only to capture, and the people did the ‘effects’. I was working with the ambiguities and tensions between intention and action, playing with disturbances of the optical perception and notions of time and resistance.
